This 19,000 square-foot advertising agency located in northern New Jersey was in the process of transforming their organization, both strategically and culturally. The move to new facilities was viewed as an opportunity both to support those objectives and to allow the company to grow and adapt to the changes that would follow. The workplace strategy required the new office to support a creative and dynamic environment that would facilitate communication and interaction at all levels. Work process was put ahead of hierarchy in creating a flexible work environment without private offices. "Home bases" that house individual storage, communications, power, and data allow each employee to have a place of his or her own. Around these clusters are movable worktables of different shapes that can be rearranged to support an individual's work style or a team assignment. The move to a completely open work environment resulted in substantial increase in meeting support space, including one-person study rooms, four-person short-stay meeting rooms, clubrooms for specific product teams, and formal client presentation rooms. The workplace was configured around a "town square" with informal seating and an espresso bar, which serves as a casual meeting place as well as a gathering place for all-staff meetings.
