Perkins & Will-Dubai International Concourse

The design of the new Concourse 3 at the Dubai International Airport can be seen as an extension and continued development of Concourses 1 and 2. Its elliptical cross section tapers in the vertical axis towards each end while the plan remains as a rectangle. The true beauty of this building is in the further execution of the design. The elliptical form of the skin changes and tapers towards the end yet it remains rectilinear as a projection creating rectangular floor plates inside the concourse. Encased in the elliptical-shaped form, high in the center of the concourse are two rectilinear volumes, which hold both a three and five star hotel operation along with the necessary support services.

The First Class and Business Class Lounges are located on two separate levels below the hotel. These core areas are designed to allow passengers to use double deck bridges for both embarking and deplaning. Both of these levels overlook the departure level, which includes retail shops and cafes.

On these floors toward the air side, passengers enjoy the light and views from arch-shaped full height windows and observe the majestic A380 planes arriving and being prepared for take off.

The Duty Free area at the departures level provides 10,000 sq. meters of commercial and retail space. The circulation galleries of the departure level are located on both sides of the Duty Free area.
