AirTouch Communications, formerly PacTel Corporation, is a spinoff from Pacific Telesis. AirTouch, a major wireless communications company service provides international long distance service in many of the world's major markets, cellular telephone services worldwide, as well as paging and wireless data services. AirTouch is located at One California Street. STUDIOS also designed the renovation of the One California Street building lobby and directed and coordinated the base building systems upgrade including mechanical, electrical and fire, life and safety. STUDIOS is redesigning the One California Street Plaza which encompasses one full city block. The corporate headquarters for AirTouch Communications encompasses 11 floors of the 31 story building. Eight of the floors are general office floors, one is an executive office floor; another comprises of executive boardroom, executive dining facility and full service demonstration area with sophisticated audio visual capabilities. The Main Reception for the company is located on the elevator transfer floor. This area has meeting rooms with video conferencing capabilities and support facilities such as mail room, copy room, etc. We met the challenge of establishing excellent inter-floor connectivity of functions and services. The architecture integrates the floors so there is no "ivory tower" feeling to the executive areas and reflects the culture of a progressive spinoff organization in the communications field. Technology is incorporated throughout the project by placing multimedia stations on each floor and integrating the latest technology, including fiber optic capabilities, into workstations and private offices. The mix of private offices to open plan is 60% to 40%. The hardwall modules are designed to utilize the building's full potential and establish as much flexibility as possible. This flexibility translates into cost effectiveness. Ceiling heights are maximized and the design creates public meeting space and open coffee bars on each floor for departmental interaction. |
