| Teaching collaborative product development |
In 1994, Corporate Design Foundation conducted the Collaborative Product Development & Interdisciplinary Education program to assess the current state and future direction of collaborative product development programs. The Collaborative Product Development & Interdisciplinary Education program invited 14 faculty teams to its symposium conference on teaching collaborative product development. This initial conference generated a wealth of ideas and food for thought, in some measure due to a fluid structure that encouraged creative minds to roam freely. Follow-up interviews were conducted during the summer of 1994. This survey asked 1,000 business, engineering and design schools to discuss their interest and/or participation in collaborative programs to teach new product development. The interviews were open- ended and responses traversed a wide terrain. The report captures the spirit of thought-provoking dialog and unfettered creativity in the informality of its format. This landmark overview on the state of multidisciplinary product development education, summarizes what we have learned from the survey, the symposium and the events and responses of participants during the year that followed.
